XB Refrigeration Co., Ltd. is a professional Cold room engineering enterprise operating in Thailand, focusing on full-set installation services for various Cold rooms. The stable operation of Cold room largely relies on its defrosting system. Substandard installation of the defrosting system may easily cause ice accumulation inside the cold room, reduced heat exchange efficiency, soaring energy consumption and even equipment damage. Combined with our practical experience in Cold room projects across Thailand, this article sorts out construction specifications for defrosting systems in Cold room installation, compares installation parameters of different defrosting methods, and provides references for Cold room construction in various industries in Thailand.
There are three main types of Cold room defrosting: electric heating defrosting, hot gas defrosting and water spray defrosting. Suitable solutions should be determined in the early stage of Cold room installation according to different temperature zones of Cold room. Before installation, verify the model of air cooler and completeness of defrosting components, and inspect the sealing performance of Cold room insulation panels to avoid damage to insulation layers caused by defrosting water leakage in later operation. Sufficient maintenance space shall be reserved for all defrosting pipelines and wiring. Electrical components must be treated with moisture-proof and waterproof protection to adapt to the high-temperature and high-humidity climate in Thailand.
The table below compares key indicators of electric heating defrosting, hot gas defrosting and water spray defrosting during Cold room installation, including construction period, installation cost, maintenance difficulty and applicable temperature, to facilitate scheme evaluation in the early project stage.
Comparison Item | Electric Heating Defrosting | Hot Gas Defrosting | Water Spray Defrosting |
Standard Installation Period | 1~2 days per air cooler | 2~3 days per air cooler | 3~4 days per air cooler |
Relative Installation Cost | Low (100% benchmark) | Medium (140%) | High (180%) |
Recommended Applicable Temperature | -18℃ and above Cold room | -25℃ ~ -18℃ low-temperature Cold room | 0℃ and above fresh-keeping Cold room |
Slope Requirement for Defrosting Drainage Pipe | ≥1% | ≥1% | ≥2% |
Required Maintenance Clearance | 300mm | 450mm | 600mm |
Applicable Industries in Thailand Projects | Fruit & vegetable preservation, small freezer | Food processing, large low-temperature warehousing | Fresh produce pre-cooling room |
Electric heating defrosting is the most commonly adopted solution for Cold room installation of small and medium-sized Cold rooms in Thailand. Heating tubes must be closely attached to the fins of air coolers and firmly fixed with buckles. The insulation resistance between heating tubes and metal shell shall be ≥2MΩ. Heat tracing tapes shall be installed along the whole length of defrosting drainage pipes with pipe slope ≥1%. A water trap shall be fitted at the drainage outlet to prevent hot outdoor air from flowing backward into the cold room and causing secondary frost formation. Electrical wiring shall adopt waterproof junction boxes. Cables shall be protected against low temperature and squeezing damage is prohibited.
Hot gas defrosting is preferred for large low-temperature Cold rooms. The defrosting loop shall be planned synchronously during pipeline construction of Cold room installation. The defrosting solenoid valve shall be installed within 2 meters from the air cooler. Pressure leak test with test pressure ≥2.5MPa must be carried out after pipeline welding. All joints of pipeline insulation shall be tightly sealed to avoid condensation and water dripping on the outer wall of pipelines. The control system shall be equipped with dual protection of pressure and temperature to prevent equipment damage caused by overpressure during defrosting.
Water spray defrosting is mostly applied to Cold room installation projects of high-temperature fresh-keeping Cold rooms. Spray nozzles must be aligned with fins, and spray water pressure shall be maintained at 0.2~0.3MPa. The slope of drainage pipe shall not be less than 2%, and pipe diameter shall not be smaller than DN50. A filter shall be installed on the water supply pipeline to prevent impurities from blocking spray nozzles. Water pumps and control cabinets shall be placed away from humid areas of cold rooms with rainproof protection, adapting to outdoor machine room environment in Thailand.
The control system acts as the brain of the defrosting system. During Cold room installation, temperature sensing probes shall be fixed on the return air side of air coolers and closely contact fins instead of being suspended. Defrosting duration and termination temperature shall be preset according to cold room temperature. Control cabinets shall be mounted at dry positions outside cold rooms with overload and leakage protection functions. After program commissioning, continuous trial operation shall last no less than 24 hours to check the whole process of defrosting, water dripping and resetting.
In Cold room installation projects in Thailand, construction quality of the defrosting system directly determines the operation stability of Cold room. Obvious differences exist in construction period, cost and construction requirements of different defrosting solutions. Solutions shall be selected according to Cold room temperature, storage scale and site conditions. With years of local Cold room construction experience in Thailand, XB Refrigeration Co., Ltd. strictly follows construction specifications of defrosting systems, and provides reliable Cold room installation and maintenance services for food, cold chain and pharmaceutical industries.
A: Small and medium freezer rooms adopt electric heating defrosting. Large low-temperature warehouses prefer hot gas defrosting, and water spray defrosting is available for high-temperature fresh-keeping rooms.
A: Water accumulates and freezes to block pipelines. Defrosting water flows back into cold rooms, damaging Cold room insulation and raising failure risks.
A: Conduct pressure holding leak test and electrical insulation test, plus 24-hour continuous commissioning to verify full defrosting cycle.
